FAQ

What Irvington drivers want to know before calling for a late-night tow

We are up all night, the price comes before the truck, the terminal, the full side streets, the hospital side and the Parkway exits are all routine, and there is no membership to buy.

If I call at 3 in the morning from Irvington, will somebody actually pick up?

Yes, a dispatcher does, the same way the afternoon shift would. A large share of our Irvington calls come in between late evening and sunrise, from the bus terminal, the packed side streets and the Parkway exits. Nobody at the desk treats a night call as a bother.

How fast can a tow truck get to Irvington overnight?

Our yard in Linden is roughly seventeen minutes away, and a truck is often already working Union, Hillside or Newark nearby. The Stuyvesant Avenue side is usually quickest and Upper Irvington takes a few minutes longer. The window you hear comes from where the closest truck sits right then, not a stock answer.

What does a 24 hour tow in Irvington cost?

A phone booking is $149, covering the truck's trip out and the hook-up, and the same tow booked online is $129. Mileage to your destination is read out before the truck moves. Jump starts, tire changes, lockouts and fuel runs are one flat charge each, with nothing added for night, weekend or holiday; the prices page has the rest.

My car died near the Irvington Bus Terminal. Can you get to it without blocking the buses?

Yes. Tell dispatch the corner and whether the car is in a bus bay, a travel lane or a legal spot. The driver comes in from the side that keeps the buses moving and loads as quickly as possible. If a jump will do it, that is tried first for the flat roadside price.

Every spot on my block is taken and my car is wedged in. Can you still tow it?

That is a normal Irvington job. The driver lifts the car out on dollies or skates, rolls it into the street and loads it there, without touching the cars in front or behind. Give the house number and the side of the street so he arrives facing the right way.

I work nights near Newark Beth Israel and parked on an Irvington street. Do you come out there?

Regularly, especially around the eleven and seven o'clock shift changes. Give the dispatcher the street and nearest cross street, whether that is Lyons Avenue, Chancellor Avenue or a block in between. Batteries, lockouts and flats are the usual story, so the roadside fix is tried before any tow.

I broke down on the Parkway near Exit 143. Can you tow me off the shoulder?

On the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway the shoulder itself is served by the Turnpike Authority's authorized garages; book with us anyway, and once the authorized truck has the car off the highway we take it from the exit or the garage's lot to the shop or driveway you choose, at the same flat quoted price. Tell our dispatcher the direction and the exit, and we coordinate the pickup point.

Is a tow at 2 a.m. more expensive than one at 2 p.m.?

No. The booking fee, the mileage rate and the roadside prices are identical at every hour, on weekends and on holidays. There is no after-hours line on our receipt because there is no after-hours charge.

Do I need AAA or any other membership to use you?

No membership, no app and no sign-up. You call, hear a price and agree to it. If you do have a roadside plan, pay us and send the itemized receipt to the plan for reimbursement, which is usually quicker at night than waiting for their contractor.

My car is all-wheel drive. Will you drag it on two wheels?

Never. AWD and 4x4 vehicles, hybrids and EVs go on a rollback with all four wheels off the pavement. Mention the drivetrain when you call and the correct truck is sent the first time.

Can you tow an electric car in Irvington late at night?

Yes, on a flatbed, strapped at the tires, with the car in tow or transport mode if it has one. Tell the dispatcher the make and model, and if the battery is fully drained the driver knows how to get it onto the deck safely.

I locked my keys in the car on Springfield Avenue after midnight. What happens?

A driver comes out with the proper entry tools and opens the door without breaking glass or scratching paint. It is a single flat charge with no mileage. Stay somewhere lit and safe nearby and he will call when he turns onto the avenue.

I had a crash in Irvington and a tow truck showed up I never called. Do I have to use it?

Usually not, unless the police order a specific rotation truck. Tell the officer your own tow is on the way and call us. We take the car to the body shop you choose, not a storage lot, and photograph it for your adjuster.

What forms of payment can I use at night?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Apple Pay, Google Pay and cash, all taken by the driver at the curb. Fleet customers can be billed on an account with net terms instead.

Can I ride in the tow truck with my car?

Yes, one or two passengers ride in the cab at no charge. That matters late at night when there is no bus running your way and no one to pick you up.

My car ran out of gas on Stuyvesant Avenue. Do I need a tow?

No, we bring enough fuel to get you to an open station, for one flat price. If it turns out the tank was not the problem, the driver can price a tow on the spot.

Where will you take my car if every shop in Irvington is closed?

Wherever you choose: your driveway, a shop's lot so it is first in line in the morning, or a dealer that accepts after-hours drop-offs. We do not park it in a storage yard unless you ask us to.

Do you tow box trucks and vans from the businesses on Springfield Avenue?

Yes. Medium and heavy-duty units handle box trucks, delivery vans, shuttle buses and tractors. Businesses can set up a fleet account with one monthly invoice and a direct line to dispatch.

Is the driver going to show up in an unmarked truck?

No. The trucks carry our name, and the driver phones you before arriving so you know who is pulling up. If anything seems off, call dispatch back and they will confirm the driver and truck.

Can you help if I am in Maplewood, Union or Hillside instead of Irvington?

Yes. Newark, Maplewood, Union Township, Hillside, South Orange and East Orange are all covered by the same dispatcher at the same $149 booking fee. The service area page shows the full map.

What should I tell the dispatcher so the truck finds me fast in the dark?

The corner or house number, the side of the street, the car's make and color, what went wrong and where you want it taken. On a ramp or highway, give the direction and the last exit. That is enough for the driver to find you without driving around.
